Connecting
From Wiimote Wiki
A connection to the Wii Remote can be made in two ways, through discovery or by receiving a page from the remote. Currently, only the first method is understood.
Discovery-based Connection
To connect to a Wii Remote using this mode, the remote must first be put into discoverable mode. This is done either by pressing the 1 & 2 buttons simultaneously (soft syncing), or pressing the red SYNC button inside the battery compartment (hard syncing). There are slight differences between these modes, documented below. The remote will time out and power down after 20 seconds in discoverable mode without receiving connection.
Once discoverable, the Wii Remote will respond to inquiry requests. Its identification data is:
| Name | Nintendo RVL-CNT-01 |
| Vendor ID | 0x057e |
| Product ID | 0x0306 |
It will also supply a rather complete SDP record.
Paging-based connection
| The following section or page relates to parts of the Wii Remote that are poorly understood. Research and contribution in these areas is encouraged. |
When the Wii Remote is off, pressing any button will cause the remote to attempt a connection. The nature of this attempt is not yet understood, but its most likely paging the hardware address that the remote was last hard synced to.
Differences between Soft and Hard Syncing

Hard Syncing saves the BT hardware address connected to, allowing quick reconnection via the A and power buttons. It appears that there are other differences, resulting in more reliable connection when using hard syncing.
